Alphonsus Corless turned an incredible 103 years old on the 23rd May!

The President of the Union, Stephen Mullin, the Union Committee and members of the Union wish Alphonsus Corless ( Class of 1937) a very Happy 103rd Birthday celebrated on the 23rd May 2021!

Is Alphonsus the eldest living Past Pupil ?? What a fantastic celebration to reach 103 years old. He was born in 1918!

He is originally from the Square, Kinvara, Co Galway. 

He came to Blackrock College in Sept 1932 as a boarder and was a very keen hurler throughout his school days.

He graduated in  June 1937 having done the Leaving Cert & Matric and then went on to study in the College of Pharmacy. He graduated as a Chemist in 1944.

He worked and lived in Carlow for many years before retiring back home to Co Galway.

He was brother of past pupils Fr Joe Corless CSSp (Final Year 1930) who was known as "Bing" while in the College and Aloysius Corless (Final Year 1938)

The wider Corless family continues to attend and thrive in Blackrock College and engage in Past Pupil activities.

The most recent West of Ireland dinner was held in Kinvara in November 2019 and well attended by the Corless family.
