The Willow Wheelers Cycling Club will hold its 36th annual 100 Mile Charity Cycle on Sunday 4th May 2025, with this year’s event dedicated to the memory of Christy McDaid, the much-loved founder of the Club who passed away earlier this year.
Established over three decades ago, the Willow Wheelers have built a proud tradition of combining endurance cycling with charitable giving. This year’s cycle promises to be especially meaningful as members past and present come together to honour Christy’s legacy and continue the mission he began.
The event will follow the familiar 100-mile route, starting from Blackrock College at 8:30am, with a special Mass at 7:30am to begin the day in keeping with tradition. Riders are welcome to join for the full cycle or link up with the peloton at various points along the route, including Kinnegad, Trim, and Maynooth.
“This year’s cycle will be a poignant moment for all of us,” said a member of the organising committee. “It’s an opportunity to remember Christy, catch up with friends, and raise much-needed funds for the incredible causes the Club continues to support both in Ireland and abroad.”
Registration is open now, and all participants are asked to complete both the Willow Wheelers form and the Cycling Ireland event registration, which is required for insurance purposes. Full event details, including maps, timings, and donation options, are available on the Club’s website.
The Club also welcomes volunteers, marshals, and support crew, with a briefing for all helpers scheduled for Wednesday 30th April at 7:30pm in the Willow Park School Cafeteria.
