Mark Ryan 1978

The Union is saddened to learn of the loss of Mark Ryan (1978)

Union news

On behalf of the Blackrock College Union I would like to express our sadness at the sudden passing of our Mark Ryan (Class of 1978).

Mark, and his brother David, demonstrated significant and unwavering courage in highlighting the serious abuse both they and other past pupils suffered in Willow Park School and in Blackrock College.

Mark’s courage and advocacy on behalf of victims of childhood abuse in these, and other, schools has been commended by all, including the Union. It was focused on achieving recognition, justice and a restorative process to address the grievous damage caused by this abuse.

On behalf of the Union, I acknowledge Mark’s constructive input to our efforts to reach out to and support past pupils who suffered abuse. Mark’s significant contribution to highlighting and resolving this dark period in the history of the College will not be forgotten. The Union extends its condolences to Mark’s family on his passing.

President Blackrock College Union
